Ziibiwing Center

As part of a graduate field course, I worked onsite at the Ziibiwing Center in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. Assigned to the exhibit section “The Spirit of Sovereignty,” I engaged with themes of Indigenous resistance, remembrance, and resilience. I contributed to exhibit care by inspecting and cleaning display cases, pelts, and mounted animal specimens. This experience highlighted the importance of museums as spaces of cultural storytelling, truth-telling, and care. Collaborating with staff like Mr. Ray enriched my understanding of community-centered museum practices and Indigenous methodologies of stewardship.
